In August 2021, Cedar Seed Foundation with funding from Shehu Musa Yaradua Foundation conducted a research and launched it to the public on “the impact of corruption on the lives of persons with disabilities in the FCT.” The effects of corruption on persons with disabilities are outrageous. As assumed, during corruption regimes, opportunities available for the citizenry are reduced drastically, social amenities provision hampered and the general standards of living begins to fall. Persons with disabilities in Nigeria suffer a double-edged jeopardy, first as being disabled, secondly as being citizens in one of the most corrupt nations in the world.
Corruption distorts public expenditure, increases cost of running businesses as well as cost of governance, and diverts resources which results in double frustration for person with disabilities.

The global effort in combating Covid-19 have been successful so far amid the emergence of new strain in some parts of the world. The health impact of the pandemic in Nigeria has not been as high as anticipated; with Nigeria covid-19 death toll still among the lowest globally. The economic hardship created by the lockdown during the peak period of the pandemic is what has left most Nigerians reeling. In an economy that is still struggling to implement inclusive national employment policy both in the public and private sector prior covid-19, the rate of marginalization and exclusion of persons with disabilities have been exacerbated by the covid-19 as most employers are not keen to hire Persons with disabilities whom they view as extra burden.
Many persons with disabilities have lost their jobs due to the pandemic, they can still achieve their dreams if they have various skills to be self-employed, let’s have a conversation on skills not just certificates as requirements for job engagement and employment opportunities.
